It has just occurred to me--after watching some famous evangelists on EWTN, evangelists I have been fortunate enough to meet on a very personal basis--that piety must always be personal.  It can never be team piety.  So a Franciscan's piety, though it will always have something of St. Francis, will be that one person's piety.  This is crucial to witness: in poetry!  Pious surfaces can be beautiful, but they do not feed us deeply.

Think of St. Therese.  A Carmelite, but her spirituality, piety were very personal.
